Today, the High End Audio is no longer pursuing low distortion.

Very often such an amp contains significant amount of  harmonic 

distortion.

Many diehard tube Amp fans have their own very subjective tastes on the amp sound. The amp sound is created by the distortion harmonics spectrum  which is an unique signature to that particular amp.

KDK is using  actually measured plate V/I curves for the amp design.

An old fashioned original design method.

The tubes are selected based on the linearity and compatibility with the other tubes in the signal path in order to minimize distortion. 

While pursuing the very low distortion, the 2nd Harmonics in the distortion should be dominating  throughout the entire useful power range.

 

A small yet controlled amount of the 2nd harmonics, during the tweaking process, may be left on on purpose  - for the “better tube sound”
